i love wood.  simply put, that sums up my fascination with woodworking.  the grain, the sources,  the color,  the malleability, and how things coalesce into a piece.

this affair started in 1995 when i found myself back in missouri.   i found an add in the local paper looking for someone to help carve decorative wooden vessels.  i rode my bike across the single most bike-unfriendly bridge,  out into the missouri river bottom lands, eventually coming upon an old general store in the middle of nowhere.   The store was all that was left of the town of Nona, MO  a tiny town on the old katy railroad.  Michael Bauermeister and his family now comprised the entire population of Nona.  Bauermeister had converted the general store into a nice little woodshop and was churning out a collection of sculpture and furniture.  see his work here www.michaelbauermeister.com   mike and i hit if off pretty well and over the course of the next 3 years  we developed an informal apprenticeship/mentor relationship.   i ended up living above the shop and learned many of the facets of woodworking.

Now 16 years later i have my own woodworking shop and am trying to make a go of it.
